Dear prospective FutureMakers and their families!

We’ve made the tough decision not to run MIT FutureMakers this summer (2026). Why? First, we want to make sure everybody has the opportunity to take advantage of America’s Youth AI Festival submissions, co-run with our longtime collaborators at Day of AI.

Second, we’re sure you’re aware of all the incredible developments of AI over the past few months, especially with amazing capabilities of generative AI tools such as large language models and AI agents. The world with artificial intelligence is changing how we learn, work, and play right in front of our eyes! We want the participants of the MIT FutureMakers program to lead this change, not just be part of it.

So we’re taking the coming months to update the FutureMakers curriculum and incorporate new technologies and capabilities that just one year ago we didn’t think might be possible.

We know this postponement may disappoint many of you who planned to apply for 2026. Nevertheless, we expect to be back with an updated MIT FutureMakers curriculum and program that will provide the best opportunities for aspiring FutureMakers like you.

MIT FutureMakers is a free, six-week summer program that inspires and trains high school and early college students how to design with AI and digital technologies to be positive change makers in their communities. Students learn technical, responsible design, leadership, and entrepreneurial skills through an innovative, hands-on program that combines a 4-week technical curriculum with a 2-week team capstone. Mentors with expertise in AI support students during both phases. The program also includes a webinar series with industry experts on topics such as how to interview and prepare a resume, oral and multimedia communication skills, teamwork and project management skills, and a wide variety of exciting career opportunities in the AI field.

MIT FutureMakers is a virtual-format program designed to serve students from the USA, especially those from under-resourced communities. Participants team-up in a supportive online community of peers, mentors, and program staff. We recruit and train a roster of university student mentors majoring in computer science, engineering, and AI who all have a passion for mentorship. They are aspirational role models for participants.

No prior coding experience is necessary. We offer three different program tracks to accommodate participants with a wide range of coding experience. MIT FutureMakers alumni finish the program better prepared to apply for college in STEM fields and are more competitive for summer internships with a wide range of well-known companies.

While this program is designed to encourage and support under-resourced high school students, it is open to U.S. and Puerto Rico high school students of all backgrounds.

FutureMakers is part of the MIT Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education (MIT RAISE) initiative. Check out raise.mit.edu to see the full offering of research and AI curricular materials for grades K-12 (ages 5 – 18+).
